23rd and B Streets Arts and Sports Community Project
These 25 images were the main subject of a photo exhibition ("Vale Dos", for "two points", in Spanish) presented in 2008 in (Havana). The exhibition was part of a project directed to support kids and adolescents from the neighborhood where we live that love street basketball. The main goal of the project was to stimulate willing donors to provide used (or new) basketball shoes, and other implements to improve conditions in this particular sport area (23rd Ave. and B street, in Vedado, Havana) and its surroundings. Some months ago Hall of Fame inductee Shaquille O'Neal was there imparting basketball clinics for young street players. The exhibit was done using the basketball wire court fence as support for the 40 x 30 cm printed images, and with the active participation of those that commonly play in the area, many of which served as "models" for their shoes. The concept of "23 & B" is to unify people thru sport and art, and make a special point on the material and practical conditions of players from all ages (shoes, sport clothes, balls, accessories etc.). We are talking about an open participation project that invites all artists and people that wish to collaborate.
